What is a Ball Nose End Mill?

Ball nose end mills, also known as full radius end mills or ball mills, are cutting tools where the nose radius is equal to half of the diameter of the tool. This creates a constant single radius (or ball) at the tool end with no straight edge (sharp corners) in the profile. They are used for contour milling, shallow slotting, pocketing and contouring applications. Ball nose mills are ideal for 3D contouring because they are less prone to chipping and leave a nice rounded edge.

Tip: Use a Roughing end mill first to remove large areas of material then proceed with a ball nose end mill.

    I have been using this tool for the deep trays I am making that are in the area of 3” thick and it cuts very nice.

    I will give the tool a 5 star review, but I wish there was a section for me to review MJ lol. I would give him 10 stars as he has been beyond helpful with answering my questions and providing a few tips that really saved the day a time or two. I am new to owning a cnc router and between the high quality tools and the support, I will be back to buy more in the future. Thank You.
