What is a Tapered Ball Nose bit?
Tapered ball nose end mills are the most commonly used tools for deep CNC carving in wood, plastic and metals. Their tapered profiles make them much stronger than equivalent straight-wall tools while providing more flute volume for efficient swarf removal in deep, single-pass machining operations. Our tapered ball nose end mills cut smooth 3D contours with reduced stepping, and minimal fuzzing.
Excellent for Cutting:
Dimensional signage
Precision 3D carving and modeling
3D contouring and profiling
Cabinetry and furniture making
3D/2D millwork
Great for deep profiling
Spindle Speed: 16,000 RPM
Feed Rate: 75 IPM
Depth per Pass: 0.06″
Stepover: 5-20% (Depending on desired level of detail)

I have been hunting for a long time for a 3D finish carving bit that would last for more than one or two jobs . We mainly design and CNC carve custom signs on treated lumber for outdoor use. Carving that gummy pine just seems to destroy bits.
Before discovering the Astra coated bits, I had two undesirable choices. Either the expensive bits that would only last for two jobs or the cheap bits that would only last for one job.
I decided to give the Astra coated bits a try and am happy that I did. The Astra coated bits are lasting far longer than the uncoated expensive bits.
Great finish and long lasting.
